These burly vehicles, also known as “one-ton” trucks, have the largest payload ratings and are often equipped with the suspension and brakes that you’ll need to haul your camper. Once you’ve decided the truck camper life is for you, it can be tricky to figure out how to pick the perfect model. As you browse new and used truck campers for sale, it’s wise to be equipped with some understanding of what you’re searching for. In this “how to choose” guide, we’ve provided all of the information you’ll need to make an informed truck camper purchase. The total floor length of this camper is 71 inches, so it can easily fit into a long bed truck with the tailgate up or slide into a short bed truck with just a little overhang in the back.
The only downside we experienced was a noticeable ‘whine’ from the driveline, but this was expected to lessen greatly when the transmission ‘bedded in’. Also its on the schedule to receive a replacement transfer case when available. There is an 1800-watt inverter/charger – also upgradable – and there are three 120-amp batteries on board. Some manufacturers have saught to address this with the production of tough, go anywhere Motorhomes built on a 4WD truck chassis. One of those original manufacturers was Amesz Designs who started production in the early 1980’s. Since then there have been more companies entering the market of supplying Expedition Vehicles like AT Warrior, SLR Motorhomes, Travel Trucks, Suncamper Motorhomes, Unidan and EVA . Here you will find photos of Expedition Vehicles we see in our travels and occasionally an expedition vehicle for sale.

The Vantage 2.4 camper is tall enough to enter and use with the roof closed, and opening the roof is just a matter of pressing the button to activate the 12-volt actuators. The Vantage 2.4 uses modern fibreglass technology and honeycomb sandwich wall panels resulting in a very light yet extremely strong camper only weighing approximately 550 kg. The good news is that there are plenty of options on the market, so once you’ve determined what you need, and the style of camper that’s going to suit you best you’re sitting pretty.
With a total dry weight of 1,180 pounds, the L2 is fully compatible with small- to mid-size trucks. With the roof popped up, the maximum interior height is 76 inches. The floor length is 5′ 8″, and the entire camper is 7 feet wide. No one expects a camper of this size to have a built-in wet bath, but somehow Phoenix has pulled it off.

Due to other commitments we used it sporadically until June 2019. From day 1 we found the Trayon to be a great holiday home and continued to refine how we used it. We are now using the Trayon consistently and it continues to impress us. They are totally responsive and patient and have helped us with any question, however trivial it might be. We have visited the factory on a few occasions and each time have been warmly welcomed.
Capri is a very well-known truck camper brand offering a wide lineup of truly lightweight truck campers like the Capri Cowboy. This particular model is designed to fit an 8-foot long box, which is the top end of this lineup. Australia Campers is a booking agency with the world's most versatile range of 4WD campers. In addition, our range also includes 4WD cars with camping equipment and a towing 4WD car and caravan combi. A very popular vehicle in our range is the Hilux 4 berth, a fully equipped 4WD camper with fixed bed, available in Broome, Darwin and Perth.
It can sit on super short half-ton pickup beds(5′ 6″ to 5’10”) or standard short beds (6’4″ to 6’10”). Other highlights include flame-treated fabric upholstery, hardwood cabinetry, marine-grade flooring, and plenty of overhead and drawer storage. The freshwater tank’s capacity is 15 gallons, while both the gray and black tanks hold 6 gallons.

If so, the wet bath will probably have more arm and legroom for showering and sitting on the toilet. Unless you go for a huge model, the camper won’t add a lot to the size of your truck, especially on the sides. With the right size truck, you can still tow your favorite adventure gear – be it a boat, a snowmobile, a jet ski, a motorcycle or an ATV. Make sure a truck camper is right for you by evaluating both pros and cons. Non-cabover campers are more compact and sit behind the truck’s driving cab, without protruding on top of it. Hard-side campers require a minimum of 2,500 pounds of payload.
An internal bunk for young children can be added to the interior, and/or a rooftop tent can also be optioned. If your plan is to travel in as much comfort as possible and stick mainly to major bitumen and gravel roads, size doesn't matter so much. You must not exceed the GVM rating of the vehicle, with its bodywork, full water and fuel tanks, people and all gear and food on board. Most people greatly under-estimate the weight of bodywork and necessary fluids and kit.

Below, we highlight 8 quality hard-side and pop-up truck bed campers with a bathroom. These highly versatile campers are smaller and more agile than motorhomes and travel trailers, less appointed than regular RVs, but more comfortable than tents. One of their biggest selling points is that they can go anywhere that the truck can go. Boondockers, overlanders, dry campers, and off-grid enthusiasts appreciate them the most. Having a truck bed camper that has a toilet and shower is a plus.
There is often not enough room to fit the new motors without moving the bracket holding the leg down. Alternatively, if you only need to replace one motor on the front, you could swap the motor with one from the back of the camper and put the new motor on the back where there is no height restriction. The old style motors had a built in clutch system designed to prevent the motor from shearing off the gears etc if the motor was overwound. Should you reach the end of the jack you would hear a clicking noise, which was the clutch saving the leg from extinction. In theory this was a good idea but in practice the clutch would sometimes engage randomly, possibly due to corrosion in the leg. While I am not sure why I suspect it was from the legs jamming or binding, the clutch failing or just old age and possibly the motors not being up for the job.
