There is also a concierge desk for assistance finding things to do and making dinner reservations. We saw many small shacks for homes with many families crowded in. The air was humid and there were many large trees with wax leaves The mountains were steep and had much lush greenery. The next day, we got up and went back to fort San Jose Castillo and we walked up to the top, and got in for free . We visited the gift shop and got a patch for girl scouts, some postcards, and gatorade.

Plaza del Mercado is a market square that sells produce during the day and is a gathering place for locals on weekend nights. Grab a glass of homemade sangria and take it to an outdoor table to listen to live music from the neighborhood bars and mingle with other travelers and locals. In December 2015 we hired a local guide and had a great adventure. He did the driving, arranged for meals, and had excellent places for us to stay as we moved around the island. So glad we got out of San Juan and got to see so much more of the island.
