Many of those incredible knife makers refuse to manufacture their knives overseas — something I applaud and appreciate. OKC gets another item on this list with this tough, reliable, and compact pocket knife for everyday carry. This knife was designed by the Marine Corps EOD and Justin Gingrich, a US Special Operations veteran who was behind the successful Ranger knife series of OKC. At the heart of this knife is the blade made from CPM 154 stainless steel.

They took a bit of a hit around 2014 when they moved their factory location from Shelburne Falls to Westfield, but they seem to have come back stronger from that with a more efficient operation.

If your preference is a non-serrated edge, this knife offers the same craftsmanship. The StrongArm ships with a customizable, MOLLE-compatible modular sheath that you can wear as a drop-leg carry. Detachable belt loops allow the sheath to be adjusted for horizontal belt carry if you prefer.
This knife is much smaller than your average hunting knife but we think it still holds some value as a hunting companion. Havalon is our choice for the deep skinning knife as it’s a real pocket-sized beauty with a retractable 2 ¾” blade made specifically for dressing and skinning in the field. You’re not going to impress your buddies with the way this hunting knife looks but eyebrows will raise when they see how effective it is. A folder is great for keeping in a pocket every day during hunting season—just in case a drive down the road turns into a spot-and-stalk hunt. Folding knives are also safer when riding a horse, ATV, or e-bike, and when climbing in and out of a treestand. Falling or crashing in any of those situations could result in a fixed blade going through your leg.

You have one blade and these are typically sturdy and built strongly. If you want something for more than one job then a multi-blade knife may be your best bet where you can choose from two to four blades. Last but not least are multi-tools where you get more than just a blade - you also get tools on your knife. Pocket knives have been around for decades and they have helped with things like cutting rope and opening a package to whittling or removing a splinter. Pocket knives are perfect for keeping around for when you need it.
Bear and Son Cutlery used their highly respected 416 layer Damascus steel for the blade. This steel is apparently a combination of a high carbon steel and a medium carbon  steel that offers a good range of flexibility and durability. The Ontario Knife Company does a lot in the survival knife category, and my opinion has developed into the range of “good enough”. They are often the more affordable survival option, but you have to compromise for an edge geometry and heat treatment that’s usually not quite on par with ESEE or even Ka Bar. I realize that’s a lot of qualifying before I tell you their knives really are good, and the Bowie design is a good match for how they make knives, but on the whole they are the good budget option. The sheath doesn’t have a clasp or extra flap to hold the knife in place, but we haven’t had an issue with it bouncing out.
