Youth from foster care in BCFS-McAllen’s Preparation for Adult Living program joined youth from a variety of boot camp programs to hear Aida Rodriguez’s hopeful message. BCFS HHS-Kerrville Director, Dennis Ferguson visits with Hill Country Caring Crafter to provide some update on programs offered within the community. TMPA regained our position as the largest law enforcement association in Texas, a position we had not held since the 1980s. In response to legislative attacks on pensions, TMPA became a founding member of the Texas Law Enforcement Council which unites law enforcement labor groups to work together and further common goals and interest.

Fascinated with animal migration, Dara has been privileged to study monarchs in all stages of their annual journey, from their Midwest summer breeding locations to their Mexico overwintering sites. For the past three years, she focused on monarchs in the southern coastal U.S., where some butterflies skip the migration and breed year-round. As the program coordinator for Monarch Health, Dara collaborates with citizen scientists and others to monitor disease in monarchs and to understand how to improve milkweed habitat.
SAY Sí ignites the creative power of young people as forces of positive change and values artists, empowers marginalized communities and advances culture. Programs include on-site year-round, long-term youth programs as well as community-based programs hosted throughout the city. On-site programs feature high school studios for visual arts, media arts, theatre arts and new media, with corresponding multidisciplinary Saturday middle school programs.
The teamwork model will include trainings and action plans for agencies to ensure consistent quality improvement of service delivery. Through a grant awarded from the State of Texas Office of the Governor, BCFS Health and Human Services is excited to spearhead the Common Thread project. Common Thread is BCFS HHS’ necessary response to the alarming and unfortunately underreported crime of child sex trafficking.

In 2012 we formed the Texas Women’s Healthcare Coalition, which advocates for preventative healthcare access for women and families across Texas. In 2014, a group of students we served wanted to advocate for more resources and medically accurate sex ed and formed our Youth Advocacy Council. Our vision is that every youth has access to evidence-based sexual health education, and access to the health care they need to protect their health and avoid an unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and HIV. With the knowledge that only 1% of Texas state park participants identify as Black/African-American, Black Outside, Inc. was founded with the mission of expanding access, programming, and relevancy to both Black and Brown communities across Texas. Black Outside seeks to not only diversify the outdoors, but unleash a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts reflective of our country and state’s beautiful diversity.
SATX INNER CITY DEVELOPMENT is a community based organization that responds to emergency, educational, and recreational needs of the neighborhood on the near Westside of San Antonio in the vicinity of the Alazan-Apache Public Housing Project. This area, considered to be the economically poorest area of Bexar County, has been the organization’s focus since 1968. Provide comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, their non-violent family members, victims of sexual assault and to provide information and referrals to the community. Empowers vulnerable families and individuals in greater South Central Texas to achieve self-sufficiency by eliminating barriers through innovative programs and strong community partnerships. The Upgrade program utilizes a case-management approach to assist adult students who have previously stopped out of school to return and complete an undergraduate credential. CMI’s mission is to cultivate classical music education and performance as a gateway to the arts.

This is unintentional and outside of awareness.15 Most disciplines in forensic sciences and medicine insurance credentialing services are vulnerable to this bias, yet the courts accept and rely on opinion testimony from witnesses deemed to possess adequate knowledge, skill, training, and experience. When a competent and responsible forensic odontologist offers an opinion at trial, it is just that.
