Meursault Rouge, Domaine Coche-Dury Fine Wine from Burgundy

But is single vineyard village wines a good idea, or just another ... On the palate the wines has very fine textures and freshness that comes from both the soil and the fine acidity structure. The wines are  never overripe, but retain their suppleness bouchard pere & fils chassagne-montrachet and finesse. There is a pronounced Coche style, but this does not prevent the individual vineyards terroir to shine through. They are terroir wines but have a quite distinctive style that characterizes all the wines from the domaine.

Its texture is a study in silkiness that can both enrapture now and promise even deeper complexity with patient cellaring. Sadly the nose of acrid silage meant that drinking the wine was a very unpleasant experience. This almost seemed both oxidised and heavily reduced if that is possible. The palate was reminiscent of apple cider but the acidity was ok.
While my tasting at the domaine was postponed by France's second COVID-19 lockdown, I sacrificed a bottle from my cellar to take a first look at Raphaël Coche's 2018 Meursault Village. The wine is very promising indeed, unwinding  in the glass with aromas of struck match, crisp orchard fruit and citrus oil, complemented by subtle hints of praline and sesame. Medium to full-bodied, with impressive cut and tension in this often rather open-knit vintage, it's elegantly textural and nicely concentrated, with tangy acids and a youthfully chalky finish.

He is too much a man of the soil to be called urbane but he is certainly cosmopolitan and very well aware of his place in the wine firmament. I find it endearing that on most of my annual tasting visits to Lafon, Dominique is always so concerned – a bit like a three-star chef – about the responsibility of living up to the reputation of what he produces. For Burgundies and wines in comparable bottles, such as wines from Germany and Alsace, the filling level is indicated in centimeters. Measured from the bottom of the cork to the level of the wine.
NB. This criterion is measured at wine level, as is the brand category rating. The 2017 Auxey-Duresses is a terrific bottle in the making, unwinding in the glass with a deep bouquet of dark wild berries, woodsmoke, incense and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and nicely concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids. This vintage has not only stood the test of time but has also grown in acclaim, making it a sought-after bottle for collectors and connoisseurs alike.
The 2015 Meursault Village is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with notes of crisp yellow orchard fruit, Anjou pear, white flowers, honeycomb and hazelnut cream. The Comtes Lafon domaine, based in particularly extensive cellars attached to one of the village’s grandest houses, was built up astutely a century and more ago. It boasts well over three hectares of premier cru vineyard as well a precious slice of white burgundy’s crème de le crème grand cru Le Montrachet. Lafon Montrachet sells for many hundreds of pounds a bottle. At Rekolt, we understand the passion and precision that goes into collecting such prestigious wines. That's why we offer specialized services like professional cellar storage to ensure that your investment is preserved under optimal conditions until you decide it's the perfect time to enjoy or resell your bottles.

We look at 3 month rolling average searches to smooth out any monthly spikes, while taking new trends into account. This is expressed as a ranking of the 4,000+ wines covered by Wine Lister (distinct from the Wine-Searcher search rank). NB. This wine-level score is the average of all the vintages in our database, with a higher weighting for the most recent vintage, and gradually decreasing impact on the average for older vintages. The 2005 vintage from Coche-Dury stands out as a particularly robust year, celebrated for its depth and complexity.
