What a shame, I thought to myself, it could have been interesting to hear more stories about Hollywood, without the need for punch lines. Sometimes it’s fascinating to listen to people who have fallen from the heights and to understand how they survived. That’s what I really love about doing a series – you get to explore the trajectory of the show, the character, and all of that stuff. He was a guy who loved his wife but wasn’t faithful, ran around, and then came to terms with how important she was in his life.

Things have changed in the way that obviously we have different ways to advertise now. There is all this buying and there are so many different ways that you can do that. The Internet didn't exist and social media didn't exist.
He's actually very delusional, and it's fantastic to play characters like that. Piven’s current feedback echo what sequence creator Doug Ellin said of a possible revival back in 2021. Every time I step on a set as an actor, it’s humbling. First of all, it’s an honor, because you get to create.

Piven gave the cue to Chicago Cubs fans by saying, "Let's hug it out, you little bitches," a line he made famous as his character Ari Gold on the hit HBO show Entourage. The Chicago Tribune reported that he was to have said, "Hug it out, Cubs fans." He apologized on WGN-TV, and later claimed it was an accident during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. When BuzzFeed News published a first report about sexual misconduct allegations against Piven, he called reporters directly and commented on the “due diligence” of their reporting.
Chicago was also were he met his wife, Rosalie ‘Rose’ Buckingham. Marshall Field’s was started in 1852 and lasted all the way until 2005, when it was acquired by Macy’s. In the late 1800s, Selfridge played a major role in the success of that department store. He worked there for 25 years in total, and became a junior partner in the company. “He asked Marshall Field’s if he could have his name above the door – Marshall Field’s & Selfridges – and they respectfully declined,” says Piven.

I came from being with my mother and giving back to the theatre. I find it an honor that people think that I’m like that character because that means whatever I created was authentic, but the people who know me know that’s completely not the real me. I’m playing Harry Selfridge right now, a character who’s incredibly flamboyant, larger than life and is so fun to play. I look forward to being mistaken for Mr. Selfridge shortly as well. I have yet to play a character that’s close to who I am.
He delivered his show with energy, self-deprecating humor and a remarkably effective set of celebrity impressions, and engaged with the crowd throughout the evening. He was a fascinating character and it seemed nothing could take him down. He had his highs and lows and all of that, but he was very true to his art. His architecture will live forever and he seemed to be very much his own man. My Plan B was to be a football player, but if you were to put Brian Urlacher next to me you would see why that’s not going to happen in this particular life.

Now, more than five years later, he’s starring in his first noteworthy film since his sexual-assault allegations were made public. Sweetwater — also starring Eric Roberts, Richard Dreyfuss, Kevin Pollak, Robert Ri’chard, and Everett Osborne — is a biographical movie about basketball player Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, who became the first African-American to play in the NBA. Piven plays New York Knicks coach Joe Lapchick in the film. What Piven does best as an actor is take you through several stages of emotions with a character. There’s a period in the Mr Selfridge series where Selfridge is cheating on his wife – Piven as an actor had to walk that line without his audience falling out of love with the character. It’s a historical fact that Selfridge struggled with womanising and gambling.
After the cancellation of the crime drama “Wisdom of the Crowd,” in which he starred, and the wave of complaints against him in the past year, it was clear that Piven would have to find himself an alternative source of income. Well, the splendor has dimmed and with it the characteristic sparkle of a persona who would not survive in today's MeToo era, Jeremy Piven for even a single page of script. The next year, he played the character of George Constanza for an episode of ‘Seinfeld’. Entourage ended in 2011 but was brought back in 2015 as a feature film of the same name. This time, the boys were back with Ari Gold, who has moved on from super-agent to studio head. Jeremy Piven’s career before he found Entourage in 2004 was filled with many notable, successful movies. These included Gross Point Blank , Very Bad Things, The Family Man, Black Hawk Down, Old School, and Runaway Jury. Jamie Foxx's star-studded comedy "All-Star Weekend," in which Robert Downey Jr. plays "a Mexican" and Foxx a "white racist cop," has been indefinitely shelved.
You give your character much integrity; also never judge them. There is no real way of getting a sense of the show from just watching the first episode. It's one of these shows—the pilots are the toughest thing to do with any show because you have to establish all the characters and it's mostly exposition. One of his best roles till date is that of ‘Ari Gold’ in ‘Entourage’ which ran from 2004 to 2011. The series became a huge hit in the United States and his role as ‘Gold’, led to several nominations and Emmy Awards for the actor. The character of ‘Ari’ is based on the real life agent, ‘Ari Emanuel’.
