China Bar Burwood Melbourne, reviews and menu
Funnily enough I actually ate more than Chris, but at the same time, I’ve had heaps of experience with buffets (and Asian parents intent on getting our money’s worth) whilst he’s all but a buffet virgin. The following is what went into our collective stomachs, though the last few plates were mostly me. This is the Cook To Order Station, where they whip up stir-fried vegetables and noodle dishes any way you like – just pick your ingredients and they’ll get it ready for you in a matter of minutes.
Flavours were nice but I would have preferred the Hainanese Chicken served at Burwood. I would rather go to those 2 over china bar, even if they are double the price. However, service absolutely hot pot burwood sucks in buffets over there even with tipping up front at buffets. Service at Melba and Conservatory is much better since they're not ridiculously understaffed unlike Bacchanal or others.
I could've pigged out here for the entire night and been happy.China Bar Signature offers the best of Asian cuisine, prepared by chefs from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. We were greeted with a range of sushi and sashimi, fresh seafood, yum cha dumplings, Peking duck, made to order stir-fries, traditional Asian soups, and a variety of Asian desserts. You can also get some hot chips if you want – J suggested that that might be to cater to the desires of the Asian customers. The masterful chefs have brought with them the many timeless Asian delicacies that are sure to whet your appetite.
They also cramb tables in and are understaffed, leading to terrible service and attitude. Not all buffets are about pigging out and eating as much as possible. Agreed, Melba and Conservatory are in a totally different league to china bar. I didn't go to Bacchanal, but looking at the photos of the food it's definitely on my list to try next time, looks like they have some really delicious and unique items.
You are free to download the China Bar Buffet & Grill Burwood East menu files. Fresh seafood - this was at the end of the night, there was a lot more available at the beginning. The sessions and pricing can be found on their website, as it differs to whatever location you go to. Lunch will be cheaper than dinner (at Burwood during the week it's 30$ for lunch and $59 for dinner, and on Friday and the weekend it's $30-35 for lunch and $63 for dinner). However if you dine for lunch you won't be able to try any of the seafood, sashimi, or Peking duck as that's only available during dinner. We deliver and offer takeaways on most days of the week, and we are located...

We didn’t have any this time, as a whole dish would take up way too much stomach room, but I know from past experience that their stir fried vegetables and fried kwei teow are worth getting. Why would you care about service in a self service buffet?? LOL i can agree about the dinning atmosphere of Conservatory been up there with the best but i wouldn't give 2 rats about service in a all you can eat buffet environment which is SELF SERVE anyway. China bar has more variety than Conservatory while Conservatory has slightly better quality. As long as they take away the stacked plates once in a while i'm happy. Facing the entrance directly is the section I’ve dubbed as the Westernised Dishes. The dishes here however are a little more high-class than what you’d expect, including things like steamed prawns, calamari in sauce-that-I’ve-forgotten-the-type-of.
This place is undoubtedly great as the food is gorgeous, come in a decent portion, and its location is perfect. This place has plenty of seats which could accommodates large group or family, and the staff were knowledgable, helpful, and work efficiently.
