The grapes for this wine were sourced from one of the original plantings of Riesling in the Porongurup ranges of Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region. It’s a pristine place, long cool summer days and ‘mean’ gravelly soils that slowly ripen the grapes to produce wines of intense flavours. 400km or so south of Perth, you’ll find our home, estate block and winery.
Instead the new brand, which translates to ‘House of Great Minds’, showcases the very best of France’s regions – Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone and Provence – all under one brand. Innocent Bystander Cabernet Merlot 2013 – $25 at the winery. They had this on special for many weeks at $180 a dozen. Merlot on its own has mostly found a home at the low end of our market, offering soft and easy reds for people who don’t like serious reds.
A full, seamless and textured palate of blackberry and plums with a spicy, complex mid palate of coffee bean, dried flowers and earthy hints complemented by a long finish of vanilla, raspberry acidity and fine tannins. A seamless palate, with initial flavours of passionfruit and mandarin leading to a spicy mid-palate with hints of nectarine finishing with classic mouth-watering citrus. A complex, perfumed and spicy nose of blackcurrant, mint and tobacco leaf palate. A full, seamless and textured palate of blackberry, plums and spicy vanillin French oak complemented by a long finish of chocolate mint, raspberry and fine tannins. This wine is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot sourced from specialist vineyards in the Porongurup, Frankland River and Mount Barker sub regions of the Great Southern wine region in Western Australia.

Currently, the estate comprises 15 hectares, 13.5 of which are planted to Pinot Noir and the rest to the classic white grapes of Burgundy (1.5 hectares to Chardonnay plus 0.5 hectare of Aligoté). The vineyards are spread across the communes of Ladoix, Chorey, Aloxe Corton and Savigny in the Côte de Beaune and a small parcel in Corgoloin in the Côte de Nuits. Vintage 2019 A beautiful white blend with a dominant presence of Viognier displaying aromas of white flowers, apricot, white peach and acacia. A well-rounded and elegant wine with plenty of richness and body.

Maison Tardieu-Laurent was founded in 1994 by Michel Tardieu and Dominique Laurent in Provence. Thus, its catalog not only includes wines from almost all denominations of Rhone wines made, but all with grapes from old vines, some of the oldest in the area. All of his wines are produced environmentally friendly and free of chemicals. Tardieu follows the philosophy of minimal intervention, without decanting filtration or cold stabilisation at the time of bottling. This helps to preserve maximum character from each terroir. The AOC Ventoux vineyard is located in the Vaucluse department, with a part in the Comtat Venaissin.
