You will find here beautiful old ceramics, dolls, silver and other precious trinkets. Several small shops specialising in indie and other niche music can be found on or around Carrer de Sitges and especially on Carrer dels Tallers , which boasts a dozen music stores. Bd Ediciones de Diseno is worth a look, even if you have left your credit cards at home. Here you will find a collection of pieces for the home by some of Barcelona’s leading designers. Opened in 1972, this prize-winning store is located in a Modernista house built by Domenech i Montaner.



Department-store bargain-hunters should note that the winter sales officially start on or around 10 January and their summer equivalents on or around 5 July. The big department stores and shopping complexes tend to open from 9am or 10am through to 9pm or 10pm at night, Monday to Saturday. Most of the mainstream stores can be found on a shopping ‘axis’ that looks something like the hands of a clock set at a quarter to five. From the waterfront it leads up La Rambla through Placa de Catalunya and on up Passeig de Gracia. From here as far as Placa de la Reina Maria Cristina the Diagonal is jammed with places where you can empty your bank account.
A graphic art gallery, shop and coworking space for illustrators and graphic designers. Don’t miss their annual Christmas market entitled “Give Print a Chance”. Founded and run by interior designer Eugenia Molina, this small shop is packed with edgy and quirky decor from illustrations and textiles to ceramics and small furniture. A mix of local designers and artists and foreign brands, the place really channels its owner’s passion for all things pretty. A really cool showroom with vintage furniture and objects from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Stepping to Casa Gispert is an adventure to the world of amazing quality food and excellent service. The exact origins is dated back to 1849 when Rosendo Abella had been running a confectionery in front of the actual location. In 1867 the family changed the location to the Angel Square, renaming the business to La Colmena. The market stalls are fulfilled with antiques and second hand articles.
In Barcelona, go to the Barri Gotic – on streets such as Carrer Banyes Nous you’ll find a great mix of stores selling art, furniture and uniquely Spanish items such as 19th century fans and mantons which are not  only beautiful but travel beautifully too. Long before Södermalm became a modern day hotspot for hipsters, Antik was a small vintage furniture and antiques store in a neighbourhood. Twenty-four years on and the store still continues to offer unique 1920s and ’30s originals from all around Europe. Owner Tommy Widerstrom drives to Denmark, Germany, Belgium and France filling his trailer with handpicked pieces from contacts that have taken two decades to build up.
The second-hand bookshop, of the same name, boasts over 100,000 volumes and is the biggest in Spain. La Puntual  is an art centre for young talents who show their vaciado de pisos works and hold creative workshops. Mercantic is a small market village of antiques dealers, artisans and artists where different things happen every day.

This is a lively street with an air of elegance, yet still remains fairly unpretentious. If you're looking for make-up, electronics, and unique furniture, this is a great street to check out. In addition to the clothing and shoe shops there's a host of other stores that you won't find in the Old City. Rambla Catlunya is ideal for finding out of the way places, and niche shopping.

Wander along Carrer de la Riera Baixa, perusing vintage shops for clothing and accessories. Mandatory stops for vintage fashion fanatics are Lailo on Riera Baixa, and Holalá! When you’ve exhausted your funds, and built up an appetite, stop off for authentic Pakistani food or a Turkish kebab at bargain basement prices along Carrer Joaquín Costa.
